ABOUT BC GAY AND LESBIAN ARCHIVE (BCGLA)

  • founded in 1976 by Ron Dutton in Vancouver, BC
  • committed to the preservation and archival of BC 2SLGBTQAI+ history
  • currently located at 1150 Chestnut St, Vancouver BC in the City of Vancouver Archives

ARCHIVE MATERIAL

  • over 750,000 pieces in archive as of 2024
  • pieces ranging from the early 1700’s to present
  • unbiased collection of all material related to 2SLGBTQAI+ experiences

ARCHIVE HISTORY

  • run independently by Ron Dutton out of his apartment for 30+ years until 2017
  • moved to the City of Vancouver Archives on December 31, 2017

DONATIONS AND ADDITIONS

  • the BCGLA accepts donations to their collection from community members
  • constantly expanding the collection, BCGLA asks for all media types physical or digital
